March is one of my favorite times of year, and that is mainly because of March Madness. Every year around this time I experience the ups and downs during the tournament. Whether it be cheering on my beloved Cowboys or watching anxiously for an underdog to pull off the upset, to me there is no better time of year. In the spirit of the upcoming madness I would like to share one of my favorite quotes comes from basketball coaching legend Bobby Knight. Coach Knight used to say quite regularly that “Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.” As we progress towards the finish line of the current school year, there are still many twists and turns that need to be accounted for before we head out to break. In the upcoming weeks we have writing prompts, SRI, placement tests and MAP preparation.
During this time, it will be extremely important to be cognizant of the items mentioned above and make sure that you are ready to address each upcoming need. As Coach Knight said, we cannot afford to be unprepared during this time. I strongly recommend sitting down and collaborating with department members to make a plan for the remainder of the year. We need to start planning immediately so that our students are ready for the upcoming events. Like Coach Knight with his players, it is our job to have our students ready to perform as best they can.
