In August, teachers were challenged to have 60% of their students reach advanced or proficient in their subject area. Of the 7 areas that will be assessed by the MAP in April, 3 of those areas are near or at the specified goal as measured by the Acuity testing that took place in December. 8th grade Science and 7th grade Communications Arts both had 59% of their students at the desired level and 8th grade
Communication Arts meet the desired goal of 60%. What’s more to celebrate is that in the 7th grade, 50 students scored advanced in Communication Arts and in the 8th grade 41 students scored advanced in the same subject area. Also, 8th grade math had an increase in the number of students who scored either proficient or advanced from Predictive A to Predictive B.
Even though we are now almost completed half of the school year, which is hard to believe, there are still more than 60 days of instruction before students will take the MAP assessment. When we come back from break, I would encourage you to set individual and whole class goals with students so that they know how they are achieving and what they need to do in order to improve. Also, take some time in the next few weeks to examine what you will be teaching and how you can make that content more engaging and beneficial for students. With that being said, the effort and hard work being produced by teachers isn’t going overlooked. Each day I see incredible things that are taking place and enjoy watching quality instruction in action. Please continue with all of the hard work and time that is required to perform this profession. Have a great weekend and TURN UP THE HEAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
