What a week!!!!! I really don’t think I have or will experience a better Wednesday than I did this week.
Not only was it Chicken Patty and Payday, but I got to sing to the staff and the Royals finished the sweep of the Orioles to secure a place in the World Series. The first two were coincedental but I would have never imagined the last two events taking place one month ago. Let’s back up a little further. Say five months ago. May 23rd was the last day of school for the 2013-2014 schoolyear. On this day, the Royals were 6.5 games behind league leading Detroit which was good enough for 4th place in our division. On this day, I imagine there were not too many people that thought the Royals would be hosting game 1 of the World Series 5 months later.
I know there are “experts” out there that can inform us how and why the Royals are in the World Series
using sabremetrics and other analytical data. And I know that it takes a certain amount of luck such as
avoiding injuries or Billy Butler stealing a base for teams to advance this far. However, the Royals are
still playing because as a team, everyone was willing to do whatever it took and adjustments were made when things were not working. If you have been following the Royals all season or just in the the last couple of weeks, you know exactly what I am talking about.
At this current date, we are at the same point in the school year as the Royals were in their season on
May 23rd. Just as it was then for Royals, there is still plenty of time for us to make the moves needed to
have a successful school year. As we move forward, what sacrifices are you willing to make in your class to help students and in the building to help your fellow teachers? What adjustments can you make to your instruction that will lead to better student performance? The school year like a baseball season is long and grueling. However, what has or has not been accomplished in early stages of the year/season have little impact on the possible achievement that comes at the end of the year/season.
Few people believed on May 23rd that the Royals would be in the World Series or that I would be singing a song from Frozen in collaboration. Have a great weekend and don’t be afraid to break up your OODA!!!! Go Royals!!!!!!!
