I hope everyone had a great week of teaching and learning and that you all have an exciting but relaxing weekend planned. I really enjoyed our version of the Amazing Race that completed the morning’s session of the in-service. It was great to see how each “family” supported and motivated one another to complete the assigned tasks and how competitive the race got.
At first, I would say I was a little surprised with how competitive things got, but I quickly remembered that we are all educators and many of us are competitive by nature. We want to be the best at everything and want everything to be done perfectly. Sometimes though, not everything goes according to plan or we get undesirable results. How we handle the next steps will determine how successful we can be moving forward.
I know it’s difficult to get bad results or undesirable outcomes. And I am just as guilty as anyone as trying to place blame. However, nothing gets accomplished when we make justifications for below average outcomes and not reflect on what changes need to be made to improve. As we are analyzing old and new data, we need to do so through the lens of improvement. Every piece of data needs to be evaluated so that we can make adjustments in order to improve student achievement.
I believe that, from what I experienced this morning, everyone here is willing to roll up their sleeves and help. We are a part of a family of educators that are all willing to make sacrifices for student achievement. Vince Lombardi said “The achievements of an organization are the results of the combined effort of each individual.” As we move forward, remember to keep an eye on the results and continue to help one another out. Have a great 3 day weekend and don’t be afraid to shake up the OODA!!!!
