I wanted to start by thanking everyone for making this a great start to another school year at Excelsior Springs Middle School. When the students arrived at school yesterday, they were welcomed back by a staff that was focused and prepared for a great year of learning. As is with the start of any year, there were a few hiccups that occurred during the first two days. However, because we have such a flexible staff, these minor problems did not hinder us from making the first two days of school successful.
As we begin our first full week of instruction, I would like to remind everyone that from time to time things will occur that might throw us off our OODA. Just remember that it will be important that we remain flexible and make the necessary adjustments when the need arises. I would like to guarantee that there will not be any speed bumps in the future, but if you have been in the classroom more than a year you know that this is unlikely.
I would also like to encourage people to break up their own OODA from time to time and try something different instructionally. I was extremely pleased during the 2nd cycle of faculty rounds to see all of the different activities and instructional practices that were being implemented in the classrooms that we visited. I hope that this will only continue to improve as we progress through this year and that our students are exposed to variety of activities and instructional strategies that will help them improve academically and socially. As Chris has mentioned to us all before, feel free to leave your comfort zone
this year. With the 1:World initiative approaching closer and closer, now is the time to explore new instructional strategies and activities that will make our content more rigorous and relevant for our students. Have a great weekend and I will see everyone Monday morning.
