Couple of housekeeping items to get us started. For final checkout, I need your curriculum binder (or a
copy of your curriculum binder) and I need to see any updates you made to rubrics for next year. Also, grades are due next Wednesday, but please let me know as soon as you are finished so that I can begin checking those over. Please make sure each student has an effort/conduct score and that the far left column in the final grades tab matches the “Standards Course Average” column on the assignment tab.
If you have any questions regarding any of the items mentioned above, feel free to contact me and I will make sure everything gets worked out. What an exciting year it has been at ESMS. As I reflect back on everything, we have much to be proud of. Looking forward, next year is going to be an exciting year here at the Middle School. As excited as we all are about a week from now, I would like to take some time and thank some people who will be leaving us. I’m finishing my 11th year at ESMS and Diane, Gail and Steve have been here with me that entire time. I remember showing up in early August to get my room key that first year and Gail showing my wife, fiancée at the time, and I around the building. I knew then that Mrs. Bush was someone that cared about everyone and wanted each person to feel like they belonged to the ESMS family. During my new teacher week and at the back to school PD days, I had the opportunity to spend some time with Diane. I remember thinking how dedicated she was to her craft and that even though she had some years of experience; she still enjoyed not only learning about the art of teaching but sharing that information as well. And of course Steve. Whether it is organizing a celebration assembly, coaching 8th grade football or helping put in fence posts, Mr. Bierle has always offered his help whenever I have asked.
Diane, Gail and Steve represent what is good about Excelsior Springs Middle School. Each of them has dedicated countless amounts of time and resources so that the students here have every opportunity to be successful and feel welcome when they walk the halls. Thanks to each of you for everything you have done for our students and for helping an Okie transplant by modeling what it means to be a true
teacher.
